CITY OF DONGHAE - S.KOREA - Tayfun Tasdemir received a magnificent tribute when the world title was finally awarded to the top Turkish player who is so well-known and loved around the world. The 47-year-old Turk won the world championship on Sunday afternoon in Donghae City, South Korea, in a completely unexpected final match against Spaniard Ruben Legazpi (40). The battle for World Champion gold became a one-man show: Tayfun played a superior match, defeating Legazpi 50-14 in 15 innings with runs of 9, 8, 9, and 8. On Sunday morning, two major champions were defeated: Tasdemir defeated Dick Jaspers and Legazpi defeated Eddy Merckx. Dick Jaspers maintained his world number one position, ahead of Dani Sánchez, with new champion Tayfun Tasdemir rising to third.
